The Principal Data Engineer role is technology-focused and outcome-driven, with the aim of providing deep technical expertise for the engineering teams to produce a coherent technology platform. 

This role will support the company’s mission to deliver to customers through technical leadership by being the connector from the engineering team to the delivery stakeholders. 

In this role, you will have full engineering accountability across architecture, design and quality control, with the aim of creating a solution that meets the customer requirements and that is implemented to industry and company standards.

You’ll also use your expert knowledge to shape the customers’ outcomes and their approach to transformations.


  • Leading and building the engineering and design outcomes in production-ready systems, to meet the agreed customer outcomes on time and to budget
  • Executing workshops and augmenting within the customer landscape; producing solutions tailored to customer outcomes that are supported by time-tested design patterns. The key metric for this is customer feedback and acceptance.
  • Solving complex problems and working with new technologies to contribute to engineering outputs that are of a production-level quality
  • Providing technical leadership to engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, training and provision of advice around best practices
  • Ability to coach, mentor and lead engineers, delegate work appropriately and effectively
  • You will also have experience in AWS Data suite, Data Tools (ie. Snowflake, Matillion, Tableau)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
